mobo, cpu and ram need to work well together so it's worth spending time investigating good combinations.

Mix and match till your heart's content. As long as the CPU is the right socket for the board... likewise, the RAM must be compatible too.
Taking a bit of a chance buying stuff off eBay. Buy your gear from somewhere with a decent reputation for RMAs... I must have spent thousands at EBuyer over the years and can't fault them.

over clockers to,also make sure everything is compatable,a few months ago i bought a 9800gt (graphics card) to find the power supply wasnt suitable then spent another £80 on getting a nice new power supply, also watch if your doing things yourself, make sure you dont wire things up wrong etc. Also if your working inside the computer youll need one of these :

which stops static buildups from wreaking everything

overclockers are expensive.
most of the things for my PC were bought from ebuyer.
you might want to invest in a CPU cooler. the one i have is a thermaltake big typhoon

Delivery is second to none, within 3 days of you buying it, it arrives.

Don't really need to bother with an anti-static wrist strap to be honest. Just don't crawl around on the carpets and go touching components.
