Exclamation Water pump- urgent help!

Ive tried to remove the water pump from my mk2 vtr today but the damn thing wont bloody budge. Ive used a hammer and chisel, using a blow torch and 1 metre crowbar but no luck - instead my water pump is falling to pieces. The spinny cog thing just broke off. and im left with the base of the pump and a big hole where that spinning cog used to be.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

They often need removing in bits. Just try not to damage the block.

How easy is it to damage the block if i use a drill to take the pump out in pieces?
Also, isnt there something i can stick in to help me yank it out?

i had the same problem with my water pump, wasnt planning on changing it but when i removed the timing belt it wasnt moving freely so tried to take it out hahaha what a nightmare, like you've said the spinny cog broke off first and then had to use a bolster chisel with an extension bar over it to take the rest out. put it this way we used maul hammers to do the job. just be carefull with the chisel or what ever u decide to use and it should evebtually give way lol good luck.

Lol, the water pump is the only thing left to come out of the block I have in the garage.

It's easier to strip a bottom end to it's single components than get a fucking water pump out. ha

its easier to do a vts conversion, turbo it with the engine inside, get married and have children than getting a water pump out.

what on earrth were shitroen engineers (if you can call them that) doing when they were designing their cars. they need to learn from the japanese and germans...seriously

I like the way Haynes explain it.

My water pump was about £20 and fitting a new one could take a couple of hours to a whole day depending on experience - took me over 12 hours first time round as i was doing it all wrong.
