Default Web Design?

I'm thinking of making my own website or forum.

I'm unsure what the idea is going to be but I just want a project.

I know fuck all about web editing css and html xml etc but have a good knowledge of everything else computer related.

Im after free and easy ways to get started on site design, not fussed about host servers and site names yet.

I've just downloaded dreamweaver and im confused to fuck!

You're going to need to learn some server side scripting, like PHP or ASP.NET if you want anything dynamic.

Really need to decide what you want to do and see if a framework exists than you can extend as you need.

If you buy the software you get a manual with it. Since you don't know anything from scratch, you have the choice between learning, or buying something that's ready made for you. Or pay more and get a professional to do it for you.

Is there a way I can make a site by just clicking and dragging making textboxes etc rather than doing it all by code and crazy science!?

Thanks for all the opinions though people!

you obviously didn't click on the link I gave above.

What you're after:

Unfortunately you're not willing to put the necessary learning into it, so that will limit your choices towards ready made stuff. Then ready made stuff requires money because someone did put the effort into it and will sell that to you. It's either going to be you doing a bit of work on your end, or money towards someone else's end.

Or free blog makers that look like,... Well, blogs.

When you get past the £250 price tag. But you don't get the full adobe package with that. Real web design may involve other programs.

It's a bit like saying 'can't I just make a combustion engined car without all the mechanics and engine?!'

All web is code. Hit right click over this page, chose 'view source' and that is the code that every page on the net will have. That's how the internets tells your computer what the web page should look like afaik.

You can make PhotoShop documents and get people to code it for you, again, afaik.

From my experience to make a site you need one (at least) of the following to make a web site:

1, Money
2, Experience (in web design/coding)
3, A generic template service (aka Wordpress).

It's not easy, and can be a pain in the arse. You also have to consider hosting etc.

But honestly, good luck.

You sound like you want the easy route...

which is ofcourse...

Buy a domain & hosting, download wordpress / free forum software and read a few tutorials.

Sure you wont get anything spectacular without php/css/html knowledge but it'll be alright.
