IRC Channel?
I origionally PM'd Simo about it.. then realised there was a Suggestion forum
Quote:
Hey Simo.. ever considered an IRC channel on EFnet, IRCnet, QuakeNet, Undernet or anywhere?
I say this whilst browsing Bash.org.. just a thought
I was thinking this because..
Currently Active Users: 124 (100 members).. 100 members. Allot of the time i spent on Sax-P is refreshing some forums to see if anyone has replied...
*shrugs*

Well a chat room was discussed a while ago and the outcome was that it would have a negative effect on the site.
SSC introduced a chat room and it never gets used.

i dont see a point in IRC.
we have a forum. surely thats good enough IRC is just something else to faff around with, and something else for people to spam

you get the dcc popup tbh though.. also irc is harder to stop spam, you can seek with scripts, and deploy bots to spam for you..
back in the day on DAL net its what killed it.. obviously it wouldn't happen with the 200 users or so sax-p has.. but it is more vunerable than forums imo

DCC is only available on mIRC or jIRC or something like that.. not a IRC applet? It's not like email spam neither.. there is much less spam on an IRC server than anywhere else TBH..
I have ran many forums before.. i own PhotographyForums.org ATM (currently inactive) and it gets quite allot of users signing up for spam..
On the other hand.. i've ran some IRC channels for several famous people.. and spam was non-existant tbh. Maybe in quakenet or efnet.. but not in a small server such as.. for EG. Wikkedwire.
