Canon Eos 400D Vs. Nikon D40
What do you guys think? I am a complete noob but want to try something different and i have been doing a lot of photography at work. So i have decided that i want to start doing some photography.
I have done a bit of research and i have narrowed it down to these two cameras. What do you guys have and which do you think is the best?

im a canon user, i prefer the layout and the fact i can go up the iso more than on a nikon without worrying about noise so much.

although i use a canon 30D as i prefer the metal and larger body compaired to the 300/350/400 series.

I chose the Canon 400d over the Nikon D40. I haven't regretted it one bit

Was gonna txt you craig about yours, i am on the hunt for a Canon 400D then.
What about the Nikon D50, older camera but people rave about it.
Ryan i think thats a bit out of my price bracket. I think the 400 may be, do you guys all feel that the 400 is worth the extra money??

Very nice pics but being new to the hobby i cant bring myself to pay £400 for a 400d when the Nikon is selling for £250 with accesories.

I have the D50..
Search up some of my threads in this section for an idea of what it can do..
Its perfectly capable of pretty much anything an amateur/semi pro photographer will use it for..
I used a 400d a while back and its not ergonomic at all..its completley square and horrible to hold imo..
I'm happy with my Nikon anyway..

I've found that its the little things that really make the difference between the two... to be honest which ever one you get you'll love. It really comes down to preference over anything else...
The only thing in terms of image reproduction I find is that the canon has a much higher saturation of Reds and the Nikon has a much higher saturation of Blues. So landscaping for me, the Nikon wins it. Whereas the canon, out of the box, gives much warmer shots. just remember to test both and see what YOU'RE happy with.

thanks dude.
I used both, I like both. The only reason I'd stick with canon is I'm use to layout and I have a range of lenses.
But for ben he's starting off so now is the best time to really be sure he's getting whats right for him

to be honest i wasnt that impressed with the nikon d40 in low light conditions it struggled to focus, the buffer time was slow and at one point it stopped working. this could have just been as it was a uni one on loan and it had been battered.
have a look at the 20D mate, you pic them up cheap now and with a magnesium body they are more robust than the 350d/400d range. also when they were first released they retailed for £1200, were as the 350/400 is a entry level slr and so build quality will reflect this. dont get me wrong though you can get awesome pics off them

go samsung
i sometimes wish i had got a canon, purely because of the vast range of lenses available for canon, and seems to be hard to find some good ones for the samsung.
great quality pics though! i love it
i know this doesnt help you with your question, but i was lonely, so thought i would post
