is Channel U still in existance?
It depends what sort of music you listnen to thats within the grime/ukhh/road rap.

Like with road rap, thats more by the gangs of london all sendin for each other. You might think oh its all about hyping about guns and knifes etc but for them its a way of life. They actually do stab each other, bring knifes out and they do bring guns out at each other. They openly air their guns, and they aint pathetic ones like air rifles, theyre mac10s etc, and all that isnt what ive heard from lyrics in tunes...Ryan you mght have heard or know of some happenings with you staying in Peckham a little bit? But its just a way of life for some poeple.

Grime can have different sections aswell. Like on a mixtape, poeple dont want pure hypin tunes. Only mainstream one i can think of is POW. You also get tunes where theyre sending for another MC, then MCing greazy about on the roads etc.

Poeple think its all just guns and violence, but its just a stereotype. Actually buy a mixtape and youll realise it isnt pure violence.

It can be ironic aswell though as previously said like Crazy T, he was always using bars about guns etc then took part in a campaign against gun crime, afterwards he got sent down for murdering some guy with his step dad, Now in pen for 30 years. I agree it is a more violent culture music, but then it is, just culture... lol

Try Sway if you dont want to hear any violence. His lyrics are quite funny aswell, and you yourself can actually associate with it. Some of its just stories really and hes got a really good style.

Also, some poeple dont listnen to a genre just for the lyrics. You listnen to it for the productions aswell, a good vibe etc.

id like to beleive it was true danny

but ive listend to grime since before it began.

it is the reason for knife crime in the UK, theres no other way to put it

even those not talking about knifes etc still promote a very negative image of general life... the whole image of the genre is a moddy "grimey" presence. prmoting aggression

I dunno like. You obviously know grime but it isnt all violence. Have a look at a few of these. Theyre just sendin for each other.

Grime:

P Money

Ghetts sendin for wiley

This is ma mate, who speaks sense:

Trozion

-------------

Then you have the Road Rap which is just pure aggression and greazy bars. Obviously different London boroughs sendin again:
(i dont think theyre any talent obv)

Cherry Gang (Greenwich SE7)

Gas Gang sendin Peckham

Black gang

------------

Then UKHH:

Sway - Jason waste

Sway - Products

Ghetts - U & Me

------------

So for the uneducated there is a difference. Grime gets the tag for all of the above by many poeple, but its quite different and aint all aggressive glory.

all well and good, but the grime culture itself is the genre, regardless of what the sub-genre's are, theyre all related to the same overall culture

that culture was created as a representation of east londons modern day aggression, oppression, and degression & the need to be "Bigger" than others by controlling them

nobody can deny it.

there is only a very tiny positive aspect of it (which is what blues and R&N music was about), and that is the strive to do something better, something that very few MC's have the ability to influence others with. and even then, theres always a negative lifstyle portrayed behind.

the lyrics which are trying to make people feel the need to get up and do something all stem from how hard life is, this in turn makes the listener feel their life is hard. which often results in the wrong paths chosen and crime's commited

thus a vicious circle is created. the mentality is that do something better you must have a hard life and struggle through it. the reality is different. many kid's come from good backgrounds and feel oppressed, but for what reason?

it all relates to society in general. too many people complaining about how tough life is, yet nobody doing anything about it. the obvious solution for those is to blame someone else - again something portrayed in grime lyrics

i could go on for days regarding the psycology behind this form of music... but the clear cut conclusion is that it is a naturally depressing music, even the "uplifting" vocals & beats promote it
