program for copying file from 1 HDD to another...
Hi all, i currently have a 400+gb of data to copy off my old HDD to a new one.
The problem is that the HDD with all the data on, is faulty... it keeps turning itself off from every 10 mins, to an hour... and its making it impossible to get all my data off!
Im after a program to copy all my files off to the new HDD, and when it turns off, pauses the copying, and restarts once its on/readable again.
Can anyone help?
Cheers
Keith

What type of hard drive is it, how is it connected and when you say turning off, what exactly happens?

You can get a piece of kit that converts your old HDD into a USB style format. My dad got it for when his HDD went down and he got all he wanted off it. It basically connects to your harddrive via Molex, then it has a USB head on the other end allowing it to connect.

molex is the power connecter, u mean a pata or sata to usb lead. Use cut and paste instead of copy, then when it fails u know how much u have taken off, and it wont need to start again

Do as David says, cut everything you want and then paste it to its destination, it will move everything rather than copy it so you will have a good idea of what has moved over and what hasnt.
But there are no programs that can copy stuff and pause copying whilst the hard drives skitting about waiting to power back up, not that i know of anyway! If it does that it will fail the copy/cutting process anyway.
