VTR cammed or buy a VTS
Hello, I have a Vtr with enclosed induction and 4-1 manifold. I have poly bushed all round and put B4 damper on it. I am thinking of buying a gasflowed head and a piper fast road cam. I Had the choice of buying a vts but went for vtr as it has 8 valves and thought this would be better for everyday driving as the max power in lower in the rev rang. My question really is if i buy a cam and gas flowed head would this move the power up the revs due the duration of the cam or will it just have more nice low/mid power then a 16v.

VTS would of been the better choice.

forget the 8v unless you want to spend loads of money or need to keep it for race regulations. The 16v is better in every way and cheaper to boot

Buy a NOS kit...then the power is there when you want it and probably for cheaper.

Yeah when you want it until it runs out or blows up due to not being set up correctly as it was done for pennies.
Or buy a rotted out vts for 200 quid, use it's engine and box and sell/scrap the rest

I've been toying with the idea of getting NOS instead of throttle bodies and cams tbh.

Vts power kicks in about 3.5k and keeps rising to the limiter. Or spend a load of money on the vtr lump and it'll end up the same.

at no point in the rev range does a VTR make more power than a VTS at the same revs.
VTRs are great! But the VTS is quicker by a decent bit.

hmm, i would lean towards 8v for the lower down power, vernier pulleys do wonders for shifting the power around to where you want it, also, the vts head was designed with a bit more performance in mind than the vtr head, but as i see it, a well worked 8v head will not be far behind if it is, they are both a 1.6, so not a lot can separate them, ive always seen it as 16v is for higher revving lumps i would say its where you want the power.

Vts all the way! Why waste money making a vtr faster when u can have a standard vts that's faster already... Then I u want more power you can always do stuff to the vts engine

Just carry out a conversion on it and make it a vts instead of maxing out the vtr engine... Ur only guna be gutted you didn't do it in the first place when u can't do anything else to make the vtr faster

the vtr from the factory has been restricted a bit in some points if you look closely, the pipe going to the midbox i believe, has a narrowing to restrict flow, the air feed pipe to the airbox on the 8v's are stupidly small in the middle, after that, its only going to be 10 maybe 15 bhp behind a vts, whereas, if you was to p+p a vtr head, it would not be far off at all considering the vts lump is a fair bit wilder up top, saying that, 16v vs 8v head design is very different so im not really sure how far off it is flow wise and how much headwork it would take to match it...

I know 16v will always be faster but does not mean for everyday use its a better engine. Surely the gas speed is much faster on 8v at low revs so in turn will have more torque at low revs then a 16v . I just thought this would make everyday driving a better as you won't have to rev the nuts of to get anywhere.

nope. 16v is faster everywhere in the rpm range.

You don't need to 'rev the nuts off it' to get anywhere, you'd need to with a VTR though. I've used my VTS almost 3yrs daily and it's fine..
