Default novice question about solid top mounts :)

basically ive not done this before, nor have i stuck 2&2 together as there in different locations.
but my question is i have just built up some front struts with coilovers, and i have compbrake solid top mounts to use with them. does anything go between the two?
im confused how it all goes together

in my head ive got...

what im confused about is the top nut and step up bolt/washer

any info/pics would be apretiated

you dont need a nut between the damper and topmount

other than that the order looks about right

what kit do you have?
sometimes the top sring pan needs the hole enlarging to clear the damper and leave enough thread exposed

its a combination of gaz gha inserts, rally design 2 1/4" coilover conversion and compbrake top mounts

And yeah as soon as I put it on paper it kind of made sense but in my head I couldn't picture it

yea just make sure the topmounts go over the wider part of the damper to expose as much of the thread as possible and you should be fine

top mounts as in the actual top mounts or the top spring cups? one of the spring cups has been drilled out by the previous owner.

the thread length is pretty long on the gaz dampers but ive also been told you can get like adapters that screw onto the damper threads and they have there own threads ontop to make them longer if you get that?

they are indeed stews yes
and are there any cons to drilling out the top pan to fit over the piston?
in my head i can picture the piston just moving up and down and leaving the springs to wobble around say if the wheels came off the floor?

cheers

if you have slack like that you need a helper spring to keep the pan up

if you had it and the pans held in place the spring would just come away from the pan which is the same issue

plus if ones allready been started you need to finish it off now as the pan may not sit correctly due to the enlaged hole
its not a hard job to do with the correct equipment a local engineering firm shouldnt charge much at all to just chuck them in a lathe and open the holes up

Alex yesterday i mock built up the struts with standard dampers just for the sakes of it.
i finished off stews job and have done what you said about enlarging the holes, but like i thought this happens now...
with weight on the car(compressed)

with weight off the car...

is that what you mean? so to fix this do i just run helpers
