200bhp clutch?
Whats everyone running clutch wise for circa 200bhp?
I previously ran a heavily sprung helix in my xsi and it was great on track but hard going daily.
Can i use say an uprated friction plate with a valeo pressure plate or some such concoction to keep it half sensible with a decent not too agressive bite?
Im sticking to a smallish budget so dont want to be spending masses. Im fully aware i ought to be spending a small fortune.....
It will be getting track abuse but will be used daily when the weathers nice. If it ever gets warmer....
All info gladly received

I ran an ap friction plate in a valeo cover it slipped at 185 hp 145 ft lb
Its the torque clutches struggle with iirc your boosted? Youll be needing a stronger cover

^ this. Hp not as important as torque. What kind of torque will you be running? As Alex has said above, doesn't take much to slip anything remotely standard unfortunately.

Main points covered, what's budget?
Ideally if cnt buy new, a second hand paddle clutch
Cg Motorsports do a Sachs paddle clutch kit which is alot cheaper then helix stuff, I know a few ppl have ran then on turbo set ups with no issues

Realistically the budget wants to be as little as possible but needs must and the car wont go anywhere without it..
Il be hoping for just 200bhp and similar ftlb torque. So hardly groundbreaking but enough for the s1.
I did previously build a longer clutch arm and cable stop to increase leverage /decrease pedal pressure. I guess thatl be the way forward.
Any links to said sachs clutches chaps?
I supose like everything, once ive got 200 il soon want 400horses but realistically i cant afford to go above the 250 mark. So i wont need a clutch to do 300+

Give these a call mate
May be worth seeing if they'll do a group buy? May shave a few pennies off for you

cheers for the link.il tap them up.
what would you reckon to be a good compromise? 3 - 4 - 5 paddles? sprung or solid plate?
ive only limited experience as mentioned above, the helix was a tri tipped plate and heavily sprung.

The less paddles, generally the harsher it is, more clamping force over a smaller area, I run a 4 paddle with unsprung plate, it's pretty harsh on the road lol

It may not be so much of an issue now, ive just bought another gti so the s1 can just be a toy.
I think il will see what crops up secondhand as i believe its very cheap to get a friction plate. Re "frictioned"??? Lol..... Or rebuilt or whatever the right word is

Re lined/ re plated
Cg done my helix and supplied me a new bearing, and postage back for £80, I think helix charge about £80-100'just to reline them

Blackie mate, is your helix coping with the torque ok? Does it ever hint at slipping or just lock up solid?

Mines been fine mate, when it first got fitted if i sat at 90ish and put my foot down in 5th as soon as it come on boost it used to slip a little, then it bedded in and now its fine, done 10k+
Dyno I use is regarded as best in the north east, sais mine is in the region of 230lbft and its been great
I think my clutch is rated to 250lbft, but I've seen ppl run more on them with no issues, probs just won't last as long
Even if the dyno was showing out and I was only at 200ftlb, it's been fine
