106 GTI ECU unlocking / function removal
Hi people....im looking for some one based in the north west that can unlock / remove function from my single plug IAW 1AP.41 ECU.
I have had the loom lightened, meaning i have had unwanted functions removed such as power steering, airbags, rear wiper, electric windows, air conditioning, central locking, immobiliser / alarm system, ABS, however, i am unsure would these require deleting from the ECU as individual functions to avoid warning / fault lights appearing on the dash.
when the ECU is unlocked i assume the transponder system is wiped from its memory allowing you to start the car with a non transponder key (regular spare key) and without having to have the wire coil surrounding the ignition barrel (i will be installing a toggle switch ignition and push button start)

You are correct about the ECU key setup.
Removing most, if not all of the items will not illuminate any lights on the dash.
ABS is the only one I'm not 100% sure of. I removed it on my last one and I'm trying to remember if there were any lights - don't think so.

You might regret removing the power steering, I did it on my circuit car a lot of years ago and went slower, despite the weight saving.
What it made much more difficult was catching oversteer.
Besides your ABS light will be on, which can be removed from the instruments anyway, all your other changes are no problem.
I can remove the immo in your ECU if you want, I'm based in Rawtenstall, about 45 miles from the Wirral.

Some good info coming through, thanks.
Regarding the power steering......to late now, its off !! haha, not to worry though i've rallied the 106's with out power steering a few years ago without any issues but it sounds like i haven't been trying hard enough.
Apologies if i have miss interpreted but just to confirm, other than the ABS light staying on (that a dash lamp removal would solve this) all other function / immobiliser warning lights would remain off?
Also once the immobiliser is removed from the ECU and for example... the battery was removed or the ECU was disconnected for some time would the other functions / immobiliser reappear.
Hope this makes sense.

Only reconnecting the ECU to a car with an immobiliser connected would have it revert to being immobilised; taking the battery off etc won't do anything.
It costs £75 (+vat now unfortunately)
