New Saxo owner - VTR Race Car
Hi. I've just bought a 2002 Saxo VTR full race car. It's an ex Stock Hatch car, just been fully re-built in 2012 & will be raced at Brands, Silverstone, Snetterton etc., over the next few year, in the BARC TinTops series.
I've been racing a MK2 Fiesta XR2 for quite a few years, but wanted to upgrade to a newer car...& this is it.
I'll be asking a few questions, any help would be much appreciated.
Cheers

hi that was a well prepared car and was available at a good price, looks nice.
whats your plans?
I'm doing a few 750mc stock hatch races next year (have not been racing since 2011) and will do some allcomers races at Castle Combe and Brands.

Hi mate. Been racing the car in the BARC Cannons TinTops last few years & continuing next year in the Saxo.
Been racing for years in various cars, the last one was a mk2 Fiesta XR2, 155bhp at the wheels with an HT Racing engine, but she is getting a bit long in the tooth.
Going to put a VTS engine in for next year, but I'll be racing on the 24th Nov in the car as is (VTR) at Brands Hatch in a team challenge event between our series (BARC Cannons TinTops) & a team from Castle Combe. We'll see how good the car (but mainly the driver!) is.
Let me know what your plans are for next year & I'll come to Brands & lend a hand (if I'm not racing on that day).
Cheers
Kieron

The car was fully rebuilt in 2012. It has not been used at all during 2013.
Roughly it has -
Full bolt in roll cage with strut extensions.
Race tuned VTR engine, 140BHP at the wheels (Kent Cams race camshaft, tuftrided crank, lightened & balanced etc...).
New GAZ adjustable suspension all round
Peugeot sport torsion bars.
In car adjustable brake bias.
Fully re-mappable OMEX 600 series ECU.
Bespoke centre exhaust system.
Light weight foam filled alloy fuel tank.
I'll see how well she goes with me peddling it round on the 24th Nov at Brands Hatch.

Racing the Saxo at Brands Hatch, for the first time (in the Saxo, not in a race car!) on 24th November. If you're about, come down & have a look. Don't get too excited tho, got to learn how to peddle this one around after racing a Fiesta XR2 for the last 6 years!

Raced the Saxo at Brands Hatch for the 1st time on the 24th November with Dunlop DZ03G tyres - again never used these before either.
Wet track in quals & did a 1m09s lap. Had a few off-track excursions, but overall felt good.
Softened up the suspension all round & pumped up the tyres to 28psi (hot) for the 1st race. Damp track & did a 1m02s lap. Went really well.
Much wetter track for race 2, upped the pressures to 29psi (hot) & managed a 1m05s lap. Would help if I put enough petrol in so the car didn't nearly die at the end of the race!
Altogether though, I think I'm going to enjoy racing the Saxo, especially when the VTS engine goes in in Feb!

My dad use to race in the formula Vee in the 750mc years ago. Was awesome and use to love watching the stock hatches, this was like 10 years ago mind. I would love to get into it all again now I'm old enough to drive myself.
Good luck mate.
