Nickhead's Castle Combe Saloon Championship Car...
The latest project!
I've been toying with the idea of doing the saloon car championship for a few years now and finally decided to go for it!!
We are aiming to compete next year.
I've got a few mates helping out with it on the event days and most importantly in the prep!
Andy - AJ Auto's (mechanic)
Mike- Big Willy's (welder/fabricator, mechanic)
Me - numpty
I'll be dontating the good stuff from my gti so that will be going back to standard
We are using a 1.1 106 shell kindly donated by Andy
Spec will be:
Full weld in OMP cage
Single seat
My bodied 166bhp engine
Rallye box with ATB diff
Poly bushed everything
Satchshift
23mm torsion bars
25mm ARB
Coilovers
Bilstein sport shocks
Wilwood 4 pots
And obviously everything will be built to meet the championship Regs
The shell will be bare by the end of tomorrow and off to mike's for the prep!
I took a few bits out of it today, it was complete when I started:

My bodied engine will do for now. Won't be winning anything with the bigger boys running 220+ in their 106's/Saxo's but will be enough to get me started

We might be keeping glass for the first season!
Car is off to have the engine bay, underneath and floor pan sand blasted next week.
I've taken the fuel tank, engine, gearbox, basically everything else off it now.
Hoping to order the cage next week and then some real progress can start!

Make sure you read the regs thoroughly if you haven't, you're not allowed to chop any bodywork (more for those reading, regs are fairly tight, only recently been allowed a BE box for example, suspension mounting points can't be moved, used to be glass only IIRC)
so many of the cars aren't as light as they could be, in an effort to keep costs down and stop people just turning up with btcc cars, though you do see ex-Rover coupe cup cars which are perfectly eligible as long as they adhere to the turbo restrictor regs.

I've got copies of the MSA Blue book and the CCSC regs,
The reason I sold the Saxo was it was too heavily modded for the regs.

A few more updates.
Finished stripping and took to the sandblaster!!
Not very exiting yet as its just a 1.1 shell.
It's in excellent condition, and rot free which is a bonus!
Having the engine bay, underneath and floor pan done.
All that weight gone!
A few snaps:
Little video of the Rock hard underseal! Going to take him a while to get that off!!
