Danny GTi ran 205 tyres prefectly I believe at FCS? Sure you wont have any issues. Grip
will be mental as they are the R888s. Upon reading up I still hear the Yokos are the better
of the two but Im sure they will rock your world.
Nice update man. Really wanting to know how you get on

Fair enough. As Rush has said just after you, Danny ran these tyres, with the same rims I have and also on the same car, a 106 GTi. So I'm slightly dumbfounded as to why it's giving me grief. Oh hang on , I remember now... Everything goes tits up with my car.

I know mate, I think he's led me into a false sense of security. Heh, nah, I'm sure i'll work something out. Bit of a bitch though eh? Fecking cars...
The grip just going around my block was amazing. I kept steering too much to each side as it was so responsive.

If it gets above -4 tomorrow, and I'm not dying in bed after today's fiasco, I shall go out there with a file, and start eating away at the areas catching. No harm in trying...

right, i havnt had to mod my arches a lot at all.
toad you need to either file down the return edge on the pastic arch. not by a lot but it will make a big difference and stop the rubbing. it is the rear tyres thats have rubbed isnt it?

Yes mate. And the rear right is far worse than the left. The left hasn't really rubbed at all... Odd.
I'll take some pics tomorrow, after I've had a good hack. I noticed there's a piece of chunky plastic futher up insde the arch that's catching too, so I'll try to file that down. What's worrying me is that nearer towards the top of the arch, it's catching there too, and you can't really file much aware as it's only a couple of mm think.

Also i think it must be said even with Danny stripped out (so lighter than me) front coilovers (better than my billies and faulkners) with 205 width Part worn R888's vs my 195 width with very worn A048's he wasnt going round Gerrards @ Mallory any quicker than i was,
I think Danny can confirm this
Thats not to say 205 width isnt beneficial, just that its minimal?

Right, update time again. Spent ALL day filing until my hands bled. But I think I got there in the end!
Here's what the arches looked like before I worked on them, but you can see that the tyres have taken some of the plastic away:
There's the little nobbly bit of plastic where the bumber meets the arch... :
And here's the metal bit:
So after hacking away for hours, I finished with this:
The metal has been hammered back, that lug of plastic has been filed off, and loads of width has been taken off the inside of the arch.
Not a lot of room:
Looking sweet:
I drove about 20 miles to get home, and I hit a couple of BIG bumps, and I heard a very slight bit of rub from the rear. Fingers crossed all will be OK. I'll keep a close eye out on the tyre condition. For whatever reason, the rear left tyre has more room that the rear right... I've also taken the front inner gaurds out along with the rears. I can now get almost full lock without any rub at the front.
Can't believe how much of a difference the tyres have made. I was on greasy roads driving back, and there was so much more grip it was unreal.
