have a full brimmed tank of 100RON German V power in the Saxo. A quarter a tank of tesco value in the 106. It has a VTR engine, 95RON is all it deserves

Is it really that healthy to let the car run out of fuel?

no not really
but wont do any major damage unless its a common occurance.
I think its worse for a derv as the fuel is also a lube for the engine bits and pieces, therefore if you're out of fuel you start to cause a nice bit of wear...

runnning out damages the cat mostly. It also can decompress a common rail injection system on dervs and make petrol engines run lean, causing them to go bang.
You'll be fine though

Its a bit of a myth that running it low on fuel is always a bad thing, damage can only occur if you run it right out.
If you run it right to the bottom of the tank you generally get all of the cack from the bottom of the fuel tank going through into the system for the last few miles. This is only a problem if you keep the tank topped up for ages and allow the amount of junk in the tank to build up then send it through all at once, even then your fuel filter should pick it up.
