Gandi699's Amazon Mk1 VTR 16v
Hi everyone
Thought I might as well start a project thread on my new Saxo VTR So here goes:
After messing around with Metro GTis a few years ago and putting larger 1.8 engines and so on I got the bug again and purchased a little VTR for doing track days or hill climbs with. Ebay came to the rescue with a cheap VTR in one of my favourite colours, as I was looking for a metallic red initially but owning an Inferno Orange Clio 182 I wanted a car in a totally different colour. I popped down to Rugby to pick it up and all seemed well but upon my return home the engine started smoking very badly. Not what I wanted as in my experience these are tough little engines so it must have been abused but never mind onwards and upwards!
I decided to pull the car apart as I've purchased another 1.6 8v which supposedly has a non standard cam fitted so Im waiting for that to turn up. In the mean time I pressure washed the whole car to get rid of the 100,000 miles worth of muck and grime!
After initally spraying primering up my alloys, I sprayed them a day glow orange colour. I thought this would look good but after letting them dry I wasnt too happy with the colour so Ive done them in Peugeot Cossack grey now. Tomorrow I'll hopefully be pulling the rather knackered engine out and refitting the good one sunday/monday!
Should have some better pictures tomorrow!

Most bits are off now, just need to free up the shafts and lift out the motor. New engine arrives tomorrow!
New cambelt has been bought for said engine and exhaust, bidding on a 4-2-1 manifold too so I hope i win

You're right they are tough little engines, not to worry if you get a bad one though as they engines can be picked up for pennies these days.

Unfortunately not mate but I'm sure I'll own one in the future. I only want a certain colour and it proved too difficult to find this time round!

Engines now out so now comes more fun stuff, wasnt too much of a pain to get out just a few clips for the loom that you always forget.
Preparng the bay next and swapping engines bit over on the 106 xsi engine thats going to be put in.

cheers buddy, got a bit more coming on now. Just taken the inlet from the old engine and put some oil in the bores for storage. Will pull that engine apart soon unless anyone needs the block. Also am going to be selling the spots from the bumper as I dont need them

Got some more goodies to go on:
4 brand manifold being painted with gunmetal VHT paint
Supersprint Magnum backbox
Stainless decat
Heatwrap
Manifold Heatwrapped up
I also took the time to remove the inlet from the old VTR engine and will begin the swap over of gearbox, inlet and injection system onto the XSi engine.

Swapped the cam covers over, new cambelt tensioner from the VTR engine onto the XSi one and the alternator brackets went on too. I got bored after that so pulled the head off the VTR 1600 and to my surprise it doesnt look bad under there - honing marks still on the bores and no wear of the roller rockers which I thinks pretty good for 100,000 mile engine.
I have two manifolds and downpipes (one xsi, one vtr) going spare now, and the 1600 block if anyone needs it. Oh and some foglights

Well over the past few weeks ive been purchased a few bits and pieces for the car:
I was originally going to fit s2 rallye steels but these never materialised so I purchased some polished 205 gti alloys with 4 nearly new Toyo proxe 4s
Carbon Fibre Enclosed induction kit with CAF and silicone elbow:
Got a leatherette wheel with boss
Strut brace
60mm springs
As I have a cat-back scorpion imola system on the 182 I decided to get hold of the saxo equivalent imola backbox
Corbeau GT buckets - got a real bargain on these. Will have to figure out a way to mount them properly in the car as they were fitted in a Land rover Defender.
Brand new drop links
Brand new Gearlinkages
New track rod end and, proper ARB bolts from Swampy and a tap kit so I can fit the bolt after drilling out the snapped bolt in the rear beam
XSI engine mounted, manifold is there to swap rain getting into the exhaust ports so that'll be coming off.
Got a mobile welder to come look at my car and he plated up the holes in the inner wings and did the rear arches - all for £40 so I cant fault that!
I'm still waiting for some shortened dampers to turn up from ebay (unless someone from here can help me out with some good quality ones)
Tomorrow I'm going to refit the loom, linkages and rip out the standard VTR interior.

Broke the tap off in the anti roll bar bolt hole today so I've decided this rear beam isnt worth messing with as its all corroded too. Bought a replacement one to go on from Saxo_singh which is lowered so hopefully that'll be good
