You will see that one of the specimens I photographed looks a bit like an ear. The park Ranger I was chatting to told me a little about this...
And here's some info I just dragged from Google about it
Quote:
Judas' Ear Mushroom
A type of mushroom that resembles a large ear when it is fresh and grows as large as half a foot. The surface of the mushroom is purplish-gray in color and the flesh is a dark purplish gray to almost black in color.
It has very little flavor, but is used mainly for its firm, gelatinous texture and for the color. With a firm, almost rubbery texture, it may be best to slice it into small bits in order to make it more easily chewed and digested.
The mushroom is available both fresh and dried. Judas' Ear mushrooms are also known as Tree Ear and Wood Ear mushrooms.

Favourite photo is number 6 with the planes!
That ear mushroom is well cool, how big was the one that you saw?
Your photos are getting better, some good techniques there

THe planes shots are cool... It all happened too quick really, so didnt have time to compose the shots properly.
The biggest ear-mushroom in the bunch was about 3 inches in length.
They were really rubbery. Can't imagine one being good to eat

Woah... take a chill poill Mike
I've not bought a poloarising filter yet... I just have the UV and the +4 close up.
If you think a poloriser is a must have, I will buy one tomorrow.
Wouldnt have helped me today mind, as I was screwing the +4 on for close up, and taking it off for long range shots.
I couldnt be arsed screwing a poloriser on aswell for differnt shots
What I really need to buy, is a primary macro lens AND a poloriser. Result!

Good, buy one, but then remember DO NOT screw on more than 2 filters at once otherwise you will get four corners on all the pictures!
Stress going now, been reassured that you are buying one!!!

After spending almost a grand on a camera, I think Im allowed to take it out once per weekend and take a few snaps
Mike... Didnt know you could screw more than one filter on
Im guessing the poloriser fits on the business end of the lens, like the UV, etc?

Polarising filters are a bit shit if you have a rotating lens (which a EF-S 18-55 is).
And who needs one?
Simo, why don't you number the images?
#3 is the best by far! Great pic.

Circular polorising = manual focus, remember that.
Also 2 filters are bad for image quality and a polorising filter has build in uv protection anyway (not that you need uv protection).

Wouldnt plan to use 2 filters tbh Fred... I only use the UV for protection.
As I understood it, the circular polorising lens is the one that CAN be used with an auto focus lens. It's the linear polorising lens that is tricky, due to the detector picking up the polorised light reflections?
Somebody please confirm... as I want to be able to use poloriser lens with auto-focus
