Default Light grafitti photography

I did a similiar picture to this a few years ago now, just out of the blue.. (the first one, being mine)

And, i've just seen a whole lot of them on the front page of Digg.. which.. quite honestly are pretty awsome!

Just wondering.. anyone else done any like this?

(did a search, but couldn't find related topic)

Click here for more of these, btw.

cool thread, i love stuff like this, nice pics,

i shot these about a year ago for a project for uni.

and im currently doing something similar but its not finished yet, heres just a test shot, i shot it in my garage so its was totally dark. with a pure black background i can then layer it over another enviroment later on and just adjust the layer blending option to remove the black

One of the options on my camera is to shoot "stars".

Quite obviously, just to take a real quick shot of some stars would result in a poor picture, with not much light or detail at all.

The option on the camera allows the shutter to be open for (in my case) 15 seconds. This allows the stars light to expose a little more? (Maybe Jim or Sayer can give a bit better explanation.. or probabally correct me?)

Doing this in a dark room, with a bright light (I used my phone iirc) Gives a similiar effect.

Mine went a *little* bit dodgey, as you can see me making the shapes.

Not sure how you'd go about making it so you're not in the picture though?

That's what I'm trying to work out. Can understand if it's got a backdrop such as a wall but the ones seemingly in the middle of nothing???

Really love these, theres some guys from germany that do some amazing light graffiti. Did alot of research on this for an A-level photgraphy project and had a little go myself, will see if I can dig out some shots and find out the german groups name.

The german group of light graffiti artists are called the Licht Faktor and have a whole load of photos in an urban style HERE and on myspace - if anyone is interested.

And here are some I did over a motorway bridge and one with a bike light in a park I think they came out alright!
