Sub cutting out.
I have had this problem for a little while now, but havent tried to fix it.
Basically my sub works perfectly, up to a certain sound level, which is quite loud, and then it work intermitently, about 1 second of beats every 5 seconds or so.
Then if i turn it down it works perfectly again.
I have checked to see if its a earting problem, and the protection light doesnt come on so i dont think its that.
Any body have ideas?
Its a 1000 rms watt pioneer sub. With a 1141 rms watt jbl amp.
I havent got any of the settings on max, so i dont think its the amp.
And i am using a 4 gauge wireing set up.
Help?

the earth is on bare metal, and wouldnt the protect light come on on the amp if it was the earth?
also i have 80 or 90 amp fuses, as it was blowing up 60 amps. but if it was the fuse surely it would just brake and it would need to be replaced? it wouldnt start working again every 5 seconds?

You have a good connection, or else the sub wouldnt work properly in the first place. The problem sounds like it is the gauge of wiring, when you reach a certain power level the bass sucks so much power the cable cant handle it. 4 gauge is fine to power your sub but maybe not at full power.
I assume you have 4 gauge for the earth and the permanent power? If not change it. The length of wire also has an effect. Recommendations are 4 gauge for a 1000w amp / sub at 8 feet in length, but 2 gauge for 12 feet. Which when you take into account all the twists and turns in your car is probably not far off.

Hmm, maybe i should get some 0 gauge wireing. I am using 4 gauge for the power and earth at the moment. Would using thicker speaker cable make a difference?
Its really annoying, as i know my amp has more to give, i just cant get it to work haha.
I will try moving the earth, how ever i am pretty sure it is fine where it is.

If the amp protect light wouldnt come on for the earth, why would it come on?

Have a look at the braid wires on the speaker as I have seen these stretch and break befor. These are thr wires that go from the speakers connections into the voice coil on the speaker.
