Default Sound Quality Install

Im going to be building my install very soon.

i dont want a SPL system. I like my back seats

What i do want though is a high quality sounding but bigger than standard volume capable system.

I will also be fitting a complete DVD system consisting of two sunvisor screens and two headrest screens customed to either the back seats or mounted within the back of custom bucket seats.

Im looking at putting in bigger front component speakers on mounts with tweeters at ear level in the pillars.

Then using a 10inch sub or subs for crisper sounding basslines.

Any recommendations?

Im looking to spend around £800 to a £1000 on the sound system side of the things.

you already have a source unit? is the £800-£1k just for the audio or is that to cover the visual side of things also?
just normal stereo (not5.1?)

im sure i can help as i used to run an sq car a few years ago and still keep an eye on the sq side of things.

Right.

The Visual side is covered.

The £800-£1k budget is strictly for the audio side of things.
This will include the head unit yes.
5.1 sounds interesting. What sorta price range is that going to be for a decent system.

Take £200 out of that budget for sound deadening. £50 for wiring and £100 for materials. Oh and put a LOT of time aside for fitting and aiming the speakers. SQ isn't so much about the gear: 10% kit - 90% installation & setting up.

I'll try to post a full system up when I get in.

afraid to say this is quite true so forget all the fancy bits, spend more time on the installation programme.

if it was me id say

£200 headunit (go for an alpine if your after sq)

£200 components (focal, boston, rainbow, dls, diamond ect....)

£150 amp for the components (audison 2 channel comes to mind)

£250 sub and amp (your choice so many variations)

and the £200 on installation, soundeadning , wires etc....

= £1000

Are you prepared to go secondhand? I woudl seriously consider looking secondhand for the amps and possibly the HU. You'll get tons more for the cash.
Don't even consider ClassD for your sub-amp

Comps Amp- http://caraudiosecurity.com/shop/pro...s_id/2893.html

Sub and Amp -http://caraudiosecurity.com/shop/product/products_id/5932.html

if you could stretch a little more you could get yourself:

this would be a better sq option for the sub and amp.

Speakers:
Watch eBay for some CDTs. EDIT: oo there's some on there now...

Amp:
Look for a genny two channel amp. If you're careful then you'll be able to pickup a ST100 for peanuts. Or you could get a profile 4 and bridge it.
£50-£110

Sub:
http://www.caraudiodirect.co.uk/audi...dc3d99ce905d24
£150

Sub amp:
http://www.caraudiodirect.co.uk/audi...dc3d99ce905d24
£150

Again, with a bit of careful shopping and an extra £50 or so could land you with an RE SX and a more powerful sub-amp.

Ah damn yes I wasn't going to post that until I got a reply, I must have forgotten. It says in the description it comes with it although double check. If they do then it's a serious bargain. In fact even without them it's a bargain although that would take you overbudget as you'd most likely have to go active.

I like various manufacturers for amps, you can't go wrong with a genny though .
The profile 4 bridged would be an excellent choice, 140W RMS per side IIRC, all for under £110 on eBay.

Is that too much power running the front comps on all four channels bridged to 2?
Should i power the front comps on a genny 2 instead?

That bridged will be perfect power wise however you'll get away with less power if you want to save some notes. They are efficent drivers.

Remember that just because you have 140W you don't have to use it all. You can set the gain properly and then just lower it a little. I've found 50W per side to be plenty for my taste...
