Make My Laptop Quick Again!
right another thread on techy stuff, got a laptop, has 4gb of ram, used to be pretty decent but now its not, its about 2 years old, ive uninstalled programs i dont use any more, have been defragging it, system clean up and also downloaded something called CCleaner, but still seems to take ages at times to load stuff, i still have 50gb of memory free, but thats 230gb of stuff on laptop still, would that cause it to be slower?
what else can i do?

spybot, malwarebytes, superantispyware and avast antivirus. Run a full scan on all of those.
Download
Auslogics registry cleaner
glarys utilities.
Also get auslogics defrag as the windows defrag is slow and sucks.
Increase pagefile to 4096mb

Start > Run > type "msconfig"
Untick programs that you don't want to run on startup.
This is the first thing I do in work.

might be worth considering reinstalling the operating system. if other suggestions dont help, that always does the job

When was it last turned off?
If you put it to standby all the time turning it off properly might help it a bit.

Sleep mode uses memory to store its current state and i find that often it isn't removing it from the memory when it starts again, I never put it into sleep mode.

No it can be backed up as long as you have the original tracks and iTunes store folder

out of interest, if i havent defragged it in so long, and then done it, if i do it again will it help it? or is it a complete waste of time? cause im using some of these cleaners and they say nothing left, then run it again and it finds more stuff

Reg, temp file etc cleaners are a waste of time. Reinstall the OS and patch it, then disable all of the windows services you don't use.
It's probably just slow because it's 2 years old and applications continually get updated and need more/better resources to run at optimal speed.
What spec is the laptop?

Yeah that's what he ment :-) best thing to go matt is back up your shit onto and external hdd. I'm guessing the laptop came with some cd's. There. Should be a recovery cd in there or just a windows cd.
after you have backed everything up use the cd and it will restore your laptop to how it was the first day you got it. I would at a guess say it's old registry files and stuff like that slowing the laptop down.

nah fuck restoring mate, major hassle if you're a noob.
Just run through the things already suggested and it'll be much better.
