search function

wont let you search for short words e.g 'BMC CDA' this is stupid as then you see many new threads made up asking the same questions and people replying 'do a search' well the search button wont find it....

ther was a thread on it a few weeks back, doesnt searh 3 letter words its really anoying as you have people replying "SEARCHH" in some sort of dumbass reply when searching doesnt actualy help inless you have about 3hours to look through liek 12 pages of lists of threads with the word you searched.

Its not stupid - its done for a very valid reason.

I've now added BMC and CDA to the allowed search filter. THese words will be added next time I update the search index.

Other 3 letter or smaller words, which are useful should be suggested for implementation.

This is why I posted up, BMC CDA and DIA were ALL too short, but google found threads for me on this site

There are still over a million threads missing from the sax-p search index, which i started to re-create a while back.

The new words will be added during the update.

cheers simo, sorry if i came accross as a knob, just annoys me when all some people seem to do is say 'search' when you clearly have.
why did you start to recreate them?

ok.. here goes. lol

Occasionally people had issues trying to post threads causing server timeouts, etc. People started to type thread titles without spaces inbetween the words.

I sussed this problem out as being an issue with the automatic function to display similar threads after making a post... and every thread title had to be searched against EVERY post ever made on saxperience. If someone made a long thread title containing lots of small words, this had a big effect on server capability to process this search request aswell as cater for dozens of other instantaneous requests.

So... I axxed the similar thread search function and reduced indexed words to 4 character... with the exception of 'some' useful 3-letter words.

After these changes, the entire saxperience post index needed to be re-created. just over half of the near 3 million posts have now been re-indexed.

Probably a few hundred words more than you were expecting in a reply, but there you have it

new posts are indexxed automatically, old posts need me to run the update ^^^
