4.7 Gb mate for a single layer DVD.
Sometimes it's 9.4Gb for dual layer.
Rip it then convert it to .AVI which will either be 700mb or 1.38Gb

Thanks mate, I looked on google but couldn't make sense of what it was saying.
Once the DVD is converted onto the laptop, Can I burn the film to a disc later on when I want to?

Why don't you buy a 1tb external hard drive? Cost about 60 quid now i think. Infact, some laptops now come with 1tb

As said i bought a 1TB external hard drive its linked up to my PS3, ive transferred my dvds over to it and there cut down to about 700mb using different programmes, its taking a while but it will be worth it to get rid of all the dvds
4.7gb usually on a dvd too
