Important! : windows vista....black screen please help

Hey guys, I have a major problem, my business laptop is poorly. Was browsing the net earlier and it crashed. Had to restart the machine by holding the power button.

When it came back on it said that it needed to do a startup check..........after the check it said everything now should be fine and it was going to re-start.

When it re-started, the windows loading screen come up, but just before the log-in screen, the screen went blank....just the cursor was there nothing else.

Now my major problem is with this been my business laptop it has very important account files etc on that i cant afford to loose.

Has anyone else had this problem??

Its a dell laptop if that helps.

you tried to start it again?

How about pressing one of the F keys during start up in order to start the laptop in Safe Mode. Then try...... what's the name of the wizard that lets you set your computer a few days back? I've totaly forgoten the name of it!

Right guys, thankyou for your replys,

I have kept trying re-starting the machine and it keeps bringing up the blank screen.

It also only brings the blank screen up when i try and boot in safe mode.

I have tried to repair windows using the vista cd which did nothing, also tried system restore but that didnt work.

Any more ideas............?????? Pleasse help guys.
