Dell D531 laptop running hot
So, my Dell D531 laptop seems to be running hot. You may have guessed this by the thread title.
The fan seems to come on not long after startup, and sits on for quite some time. To me, that doesnt seem normal given that Im normally just browsing the interwebnet, using the bare minimum of programs.
Its a year or two old, second hand. Otherwise it works fine, never overheated or kicked into the second stage of the fan. Running a CPU temp monitoring program, it seems to hover around high 50/low 60s deg C.
Does this sound right to you? If not, is there anything I can do to stop it running so hot.

Get some compressed air in a can and spray it into any air vents should blast out the dust that'll be causing poor air circulation

Do you smoke around it, or did it belong to a smoker?

Yeah deffo strip it down, replace the thermal compound
same stuff as copper slip incase you see the price of thermal compound and have a heart attack!
Clean out the vents
re-assemble
job done
(This is also the fix for the red ring of death on the 360s )

As above... Do you have it on your lap a lot, as these manufacturers tend to state that laptops are NOT designed to be on your lap phaha !
But yeah, pop it open, its probably small torx screws holding it together. Blow the shit out with compressed air and replace thermal compound on heat sink if you feel it necessary. *Which it probably isnt if its relatively new*

Don't do that, you can force dust into places you dont want it to be in.
Unscrew the bottom plate, then clean the fan out however you decide best, tooth brush etc.
