Newbies section and spam
i cant remember if this has been posted before so searched and couldnt find anything
recently i have noticed a few people spamming in the Newbies section, ie. the same post repeated for the top 5 or 6 threads. imo this is pure spamage, there was one member that posted the same thing in one thread twice on different pages.
i know its to welcome new members but to me it seems that people are just posting in there to boost their post count.
has any one thought about this? any ideas?
discuss...

i know and its a tough one to call. I can easily set the permissons for no posts to count but why should newbies be punished for other peoples spam. The spammer will argue they are just saying hello and welcome to newbies but in reality everyone can see thats not the case at all

agreed Scott, to some people their post count means alot to them but as you have said its not the newbies fault.

Can't you put it so the people who have more than 50 posts, it doesn't count, and for the actual new people who have less than 50, then they do count as post counts...?

its not just established members doing it, a number of "newbies" also use the hello and welcome technique to boost their post counts.

Why not just take away the post count?
I know that it's not fair non newbies but all they do is Say hello etc. Then maybe thanks for the welcomes. So only 2 posts max.
If you remove it then they can use the other sections to boost their post count and participate in more...

Ahh, gotcha :d
Suppose, but then the newbies wouldnt have a start on their 50 posts and would just stop making posts there? Maybe just scrap the newbie section?

Nah, I don't think they would. They only really need to post once in the newbie section to introduce themselves and then if anyone says 'got any pics?' then the newbie can then start a new thread in the photos/video section with their car and get started on there post count. Look at Gazzza he's been on like 4 days and on 300+ posts already from his progress thread. Fair enough theres a bit of spam. lol. But I don't see the point of having a post count in Newbies section

Yeah I see your point wouldnt do too much harm to cut the post count out the newbie section then, except srcnix and jamiem's post counts would half

gazza's proggress thread is 80% spam its awefull lol....i think the only way to stop people posting exseisive "hello & welcomes" is to take the post count outa the newbie section...but then there will be a seriosu lack of "friendly welcomes"
