Oil cooler fitting
Been offered a brand new oil cooler rad for pennies so been looking into the fitting of it, I can get the pipes made up locally no problem but I’ll need the house to attach it to the engine, I’ve got a mk2 vtr what houseing do I need to fit it all because the mocal 1s I’ve seen attack to the block like the earlier saxo filters do instead of the ally thing Ive got on mine with the plastic filter, how do I go about fitting it on a later model engine. Hope that makes sense haha

You need to convert to the earlier style oil filter.
This has been covered loads of times. have a search
You'll need a tap and a bolt to block 1 hole. apart from that it's relatively straight forward.

Just wondered if there was such a thing as a mk2 oil cooler fitting but can’t find anything, the thing I was mostly struggling with was doing the mk1 conversion apparently the part isn’t available any more, how ever I new the size of threaded tube I need coz we’ve got some at work that screws into oil filters but I didn’t no how long it needed to be, did some googling and the part number is 1103a7 or somthing along those lines, the 37 stands for 37mm I’ve found out. So all is now good and I hope that might help any 1 else doing the conversion, but threaded tube to fit the filter and then cut it to 37mm long :-)

Doesn't need to be 37mm 35-42 mm is fine as not all blocks were tapped out the same and the filter can accept a extra 6mm so plenty of room.
The hole you need to block has to be tapped out to m10 and use either a stainless or mild steel m10 grub screw If you use a zinc coated You run the risk of fucking your block up over time due to zink cross material contamination..
One of the kits I use to sell and make is currently running on a 500bhp turbo set up running in a drag car so if done correctly it can take whatever you throw at it.
Also the threaded tube can be bought online or a local machine shop can make it up for you for cheap.

Don't fit a cooler unless you NEED a cooler.
The opportunity for a failure to cause all your oil to be lost is many times greater.
Good oil is happy up to 150 Deg C. If you're not running that hot, you don't need a cooler.
Add to the above, the ONLY air/oil cooler that's good enough to use these days is a Setrab one. Most of the others are unreliable Chinese junk.

I was only buying it as at the time I was planning on putting a turbo on the saxo, but after doing my first track day in it this week I’m not going the turbo route, the saxo does obviously need a bit more poke on the track but I’ve gone off the idea of the turbo kit now
