Default Remap Query

Thinking of remapping the saxo

i realise the map will not give overly good results as its a natually aspirated petrol engine.

so, do you think its worth it?

basically the company have said somewhere between 8 and 14 bhp increase.

however i feel it might be benificial to get the 4branch, cda enclosed induction kit and full magnex system working correctly. there is obviously better breathing in the engine at both ends, so more fuel can be presented to the engine.

do people think its worth £200 for 8-14 bhp, but more importantly making the most of my modifications??

thanks

Chris

Agree with Baz, you wont see alot for your money, if you spent the extra couple hundred on a set of cams (Like the newmans PH3 cam group buy currently going on - act fast & you will save some serious cash) then get you remap & you will be all smiles ear to ear & looking at about 150bhp+ depending on the quality of the remap

** Assuming you have a VTS?

its a vtr, but never mind that!

so everyone reckons cams then a map

was looking at the cams group buy and a vtr cam seems to be about £130 delivered

you think i should get the cam, then the map?

If its a VTR it wont be at 118bhp with just breather mods, and you wont see 150bhp with cams & a remap but these engines do respond quite well to Cams so you best option to get the most out the car for the least money is still to go with a performance cam and a remap & since a VTR is a SOHC then its a bit cheaper for you since you only need one camshaft

Get it cammed first then remapped, then you will be getting the absolute best from the engine and all the breathing mods as well

Same as pretty much anyone, breathing mods + plus 285 cams then a re-map,
you would not see them gains without a set of cams anyway...

I had a vtr with pretty similer breathing mods, made 112bhp at the fly. Added a piper 272 cam which is suppose to be quite mild. Had another power run, came back at 120.9bhp but was running 12.4 afr and 40 degrees intake temp. The afr was proof that a remap would be benificial but i sold it before i bothered. Lean it out a bit and raise the rev limit and i think i could have been near 130bhp.

After remapping the vts, one thing i will say is, make sure you get someone who actually knows what they are doing. I spoke to one company and they promised me EXACTLY 14bhp rise at the fly, yea right. Dicks. The chap that did my vts took 12 hours just constantly playing with it to get it perfect.

Get your self a piper 285 cam with their own stronger springs (yes you do need them) and a decent vernier pulley - about £400 all in. While the cam is out you could go for a decent cylinder head job but unless your willing to spend big money for a compitent engineer to do a good job then dont bother. Decent heads are £400+ alone. Then get a remap.

What gearbox are you using? The best mod a vtr is a taller final drive. Something like a vts/gti box, mk1 106 1.4 xsi box or even the 1.3 rallye box.

Good output you've made already mate, but definately get it cammed and then go for the map. Costs more but you will see nice gains, throttle response on your car will be sharp as. If you're making that power now, good cams and good map will see you possibly clear the 130 mark (@ fly), which is pretty dandy for a SOHC 1600.
