Newbie section
How about having a sticky or something in the newbie section about the avatars and signatures seeing as how most newbies post hello in there, they might see that they need 50 posts before they can have them.
Also maybe have something when you buy saxp stickers saying that simo will post them when he has a chance to.
Just a thought, might save some more needless threads and newbies getting told to use the search button.

I think another thing that might be useful, is that they get taken straight to the newbies section when they have joined, so they can browse around in there before making a post.
