Default Road Tax

Right, well my road tax runs out today. and tomorrow im off. but im not sure if the post offices are open. as i am working 8- 5 everyday. and when i get home its 7(on bus), i dont think i will be able to buy road tax until next weekend. and i got to, and i mean got to(Court case) drive to london on 3rd. and i dont want to drive without tax at the same time i have to drive or i would miss alot of stuff. only option is to buy Online from DVLA site. but if i buy it today i still wouldnt get the tax disk till about 4th. so my question is am i allowed to drive my car if i purchased Tax over the net but i dont have a tax disc displaying it on the windshield?

P.S going to london for a different thing tomorrow so need a reply soon guys. thanks

Just apply for it online mate, least it shows up the car has been retaxed.

I was supposed to be declaring mine off road, but I now need the car for at least another month so I retaxed it online and I'm still awaiting it through the post.

You would still be guilty of failing to display a valid vehicle excise licence. Can you get someone to buy your tax on the 2nd at the post office?

Don't forget to keep your car off road until then.

V.

ps - did you not get notification of your impending liability? There is a big clue pasted to the front of your windscreen - for future reference it looks a little like this..

the numbers cunningly show the expiry date, really clever isn't it?

Tax it online mate.
They usually give 14 Days Grace anyway.
So long as the Current one is Displayed, and perhaps print the confirmation of taxing it online off, and you'll be fine mate.

Factually incorrect. There is no 14 days grace. The offence is absolute. "Failure to DISPLAY A VALID vehicle excise licence.

No amount of receipts, printouts or chequebook stubs will mitigate the offence. But, with the advent of ANPR you will show up on the database as having a VALID tax, although a visual check will show failure to display. You'll probably be OK, but it's still a risk.

Sorry man, genuinely thought there was a 14 day Grace.. Something someone said once..
Think 99% of coppers would let it go anyway tbh, plus, if its a copper car, it'll show up as Taxed unless they pull you.
Should be fine mate, but yeah £99 just after Xmas isn't good! lol

:o what are you taxing?! or is that for awhol one year?

Thanks everyone for the input, taxed it but no proof its unfair. if the car has been taxed why should there be visual evidence to prove it? i mean with police being able to check databases and what not to determine a car is road legal or not.

Yeah, it's a sweet car mate.

Just fitted some smoked lights today, next month she will be getting full tints all round, boot debadged/delocked, lowered and full sound system installed.

Can't wait...!
