someone must know the answer
are rear brake shoes self adjusting?
i.e. do they move out themselves or do you have to calibrate them whilst fitted?
thanks

na mate, you know the shoes have to be near the drum so you get better braking
i put some shoes into my bros car today and a cylinder for it to clear MOT
not sure if theres enough braking efficiency at the rear drums as i didnt remember adjusting the shoes outwards, i was assumnig that they self adjust as you push the brake or is that bullshit?
thanks

Nah theyre self adjusting. just pull the handbrake a few times then repeatedly pump the pedal to allow them to adjust.

New shoes need manually adjusting when you first fit them , adjust them up as much as you can , WHILST leaving the drum free to spin . They can be little sods to adjust correctly and you may need to pull the drum off a couple of times .

done all that today, pedal feels so much better now
last problem is the handbrake, there no play in the handbrake lever at all
i think the shoes need to be adjusted, i.e. pushed out by remving the drum so there just about touching the inner drum when its put back on...
there is a gear mechanism of some sort inside but not too sure how to go about it...
thanks for help

^^ you need to adjust the rear shoes so they are just very very slightly touching the drum mate. has the handbrake cable been adjusted in the past?
