I had roblems with the high octane tesco stuff, car ran shite with it for some reason, changed the fuel filter, engine flush, and use BP Ultimate or Shell Optimax, and its running fine now.

Tesco fuel is notoriously bad for this, and many people will warn you away, tesco make the fuel weaker, and don't add the correct additives. Unlike shell or BP where they add similar engine cleaning additives that redex have in, hence the 2p more.

Tesco fuel is (or was before the lambda sensor eating fuel problem a couple of years back!) supplied by Greenergy who put in a part bioethanol mix in the fossil fuel... why? because bioethanol has a massively high Octane rating (which is good), it's cheap(ish) and because of tesco's commitment to saving the environment yadda yadda. problem is that the bioethanol in high concentrations munches alloy based engines.... the effects on alloy engine in low concentrations isn't fully known.
Biggest problem with greenergy is their Quality Control which is known to be a bit lax.

I thought avoiding supermarket fuel was the norm on here?
I use Total or BP, which ever I am near at time of needing fuel.

No your driving style and journey distances will also effect that as well as other factors such as tyre pressure etc.
Totally fill up your tank and work out the mpg on your next fill up when the fuel light has come on.

I've never had a problem with Tesco fuel... seems to be fine for me. I've been running my car on it for the past 7 or 8 months and had no problems. I did use to fill up at a Shell garage and everything seems to be the same no matter which I fill up at.
