i work at halfords and you can buy ones which obviously have screws which clamp the after market ones onto the stick. Which then are covered up by a screw trim. Pretty simple

mine was a bitch too, in the end i got annoyed, cut away the rubber surround leaving the plastic bit thats glued to the metal stick.... finally i got the angle grinter out n unleashed the fury nearly severing my hand in the process. worked in the end tho

No as I said there isnt a thread, the aftermarket one will come or should come with different size adapters to go over the gear stick then the aftermarket one sits on that and you should be able to tighten it up with the little screws on it.
