people in IT
For people in IT: what is your age, job position and wage per annum?
I'm 19, it trainee and on £12,000.
On Monday i'm going in and asking for a rise to £16,000. Put it this way i'm good at my job and think i'm deffo worth it. Not a trainee no more that's for sure. What you reckon?

I'm 19 second level technician get £23,000
How I got a raise is leave subtle hints around, print out a job description and leave it in the printer and wait for your manager to spot it, and also book a fake day off for a "job interview"

Agree with Carter.
If they find you irreplaceable then maybe so, but it depends. No offence intended btw, that's just how it works.

Best thing to do is get another job, its easier to do when you've already got one, with the money your asking for. Then put that in front of them and say id prefer a pay rise than to leave, if not go to the other job.
At your age the pay rate is 18k.

Can i ask how you guys got in to this? I studdied double ICT for GSCE and did it at A-level and got a high B in ICT but i didnt follow it on after and stayed at my shit job. I know i wont find anything know with it being the way it is.
But i want to start to look in to what i can do to prepare and get ready for when the time is right. Firstly i dont even know where to start to look to be honest or what i would need qualifications wise.
Thanks
p.s sorry for the thread hi-jack.

Im finding when I apply for different (slightly higher jobs) I get told after interviews etc - That in the current climate just too many older, more experienced, higher qualified people, who they cannot simply turn down, younger people seem to suffer.
I did CompTIA A+ & N+ - organisations seem to like them kind of qualifications.

Same boat as you fella.
2:1 or 1st class BsC Hons degree in comp science plus CCNA 1-4 surely will start on at least an 18k sal you would hope!
Then again it doesnt always work that way.
