50mm springs on 1.1 saxo desire 2000
Would these springs go on ok on my saxo? Obviously I'd need new shocks, which will cost me.
This is probably a really stupid ass question but with the springs do they lower the back of the car or the front??
Here's the springs

The springs will go on the front as the rear has a 'tortion bar' which will need to be lowered by a garage unless you know what your doing.

If you lowered the back of the car you wouldn't need different springs then?
Could I lowe the back and not bother with the front?
Thanks for reply!

No you don't need springs on the back because it does'nt have any. The setup on a saxo is 2 springs & 2 shocks up front and a torsion bar & 2 shocks at the back. You could lower the back yes but it is recommended that you use uprated shocks and it would look stupid with just the back lowered.
For a full lowering kit doing it properly your looking at around 200quid, you could just use the springs you have and lower the whole car but will eventually knacker your original shocks

Had no idea on the actual set up, thank you!
What you just said surely means I cannot lower the whole car with the springs I have? I assume just change the shocks on the front and put the springs in and then just get the garage to lower the back with the torsion for me? Would you recommend I got new shocks for the back if I lowered it aswell then?
Thanks a lot!

you can lower the whole car with just the springs you have its just that without the uprated shocks then the shocks you already have won't last that long because they arent meant for a lowered car, I'd recommend you get uprated shocks front & back but if your on a budget you would probably be ok with standard shocks on the rear, plus the rear ones are easy to change if they do go bad.

Thanks man.
What's the worst case scenario if the rear or front were to go bad due to not changing the shocks?
Would the car just collapse like mid driving or something?

Nah its very unlikely that it would collapse, would just make the car bouncy and handle like crap, i only say get the uprated ones as you will eventually need them so may aswell do the job once rather than twice but obviously its upto you

Thank you so much man
The uprated ones - is that a make or just a name given?
When I get a little more dollar I think I'll invest into some uprated as looking at insurance prices I'll be stuck with my Saxo longer than intended!
Thanks again

Uprated is just the name for the shocks to go with the lowering springs, there are different makes of them like spax, apex, bilstein etc etc you would probably be best looking for some spax ones to match the springs but its ok to mix and match them if you find cheaper ones of a different make or whatever

Awesome, thanks a lot for your time
One last question to do with lowering as you seem to know your stuff
When it comes to selling my saxo I wanted to put all my original stuff back on, cause modding often seems to lower the price giving that boy racer image, so I'd sell alloys etc seperate.
Would lowering the car 50mm lower the value at all or put people off? Cause it'd be lowered with like steelies back on etc when it comes to selling
Thanks so much

I can't really say to be honest, it depends who you sell it to like people that know saxo's would see it as a plus but there is always people who prefer to buy a car as standard. But its not a huge job to put it back to standard height if you did have trouble selling it anyway.
and no worries glad to help out

put it on pistonheads matey, most of the cars on there are modified and it depends who you sell it to e.g. an old granny wouldn't appreciate it but you could sell it for more to a younger person

Yeah like I said I'd have it all original just not the height, which wouldn't be too much of an issue I wouldn't of thought and some people may prefer
Thank you all for your responses
