Default Abandoned car on property

Found a car which has been left on our land.

The owner moved out about 1 month ago, I've rang him/ text him with no response in regards what he going to do with it!

I have a key for the boot which was left. No tax as it ran out last year and non insurance.

What's the best way to claim it to be mine?

I'd like to add. He left the land in a state in which it's going to cost 600 quid to clean.

I would also like to know this, there has been an abandoned Honda Civic outside my girlfriends place for about 3 months now.

Depends what you want to do with it

If your gonna scrap or strip it.. Then I'd just do it lol

If you want to use it.. You have to apply to the police or dvla iirc? Then send letters out to the owner and after x time if no reply it becomes yours.. It's not a short process though

A month may seem a long time to you, but maybe he's just been really busy? (Obviously I don't know him so just an idea!)

On the other hand, if he's pretty much abandoned it, no tax since last year.. i'm guessing he never used it and doesn't really care about it?

So you could maybe sell it for parts, then if he ever comes back and asks about it.. "Oh, I just assumed you came and picked it up."

If you did sell it for parts though, how would you get rid of the chassy, sell it to a scrap metal place or something? I'm guessing some places wouldnt be happy if they knew it wasn't your car, selling it's surely illegal.

There's enough dodgey scrap metal people that noone would ask when it comes to getting rid of the chassis lol.

On one of our sites somebody left a car on the property of the Client and I'm sure all that happened was that you have to display a note on their car stating that they need to move it or it will be seized..

The owner didn't move it, so my dad collected the car off the property for them!

I'm unsure on how long for, but if it's been there for a while they couldn't prove you hadn't already done this...

Scrap the fucker...

I'll speak to small claims.

I can apply for the logbook but If I do get it. I can still get fined for theft!
As I'm not the owner. So going to have to be careful

my brother had a sierra cossie dumped in front of his house but the police didnt want to know as it was a private car park. the land owner didnt want to know either. the police said he could legally claim it after 6 months. but he needed the logbook to get a key from ford. he applied for it but the bloke who dumped it took it back. police were contacted but they said it had later been recovered but was being used as evidence in a crime and he would have to wait until after the case to have it back. in the end he said dont bother and washed his hands of it because he didnt want to keep getting pulled in it. shame really as it was completely standard and mint condition.

a guy i know found a old car that had been abandoned in a garage for years, looked into it and owner had died so he rang the police (and not sure about the dvla), think they looked into it and found there was no registered keeper or anything so police said you can take it aslong as you pay or fix any damage to the garage, they whent in and took it and he whent back a few days later and fixed it all, one of the guys mates filmed it all and put it on you tube

Tell him you're applying for a logbook if it's not moved within 14days.

Or failing that, go park it on a public road and let the police have it crushed. If it's not your property you dont have to have it on your land...

Also... invoice him for parking charges incurred whilst on your property.

This.

Any car moved without owners permission is TWOC and not worth the hassle.
Would you want it doing to your car?

I'm currently doing the above with my Uncles RD350, not hard and totally legal.
