What is there to look for when buying a VTS engine?

I have an 02 Saxo VTR at the moment and need an upgrade as the engine is... http://youtu.be/4zPBeJ70lEY

Cheers Mike

Best bet is to find one still in the car that you can hear running and maybe even drive. Engine problems are usually hidden from view. lol

Get a engine from the same year as your car.

Read up a few guides on here so you've got your head around/understand everything.

Keep £100-£200 spare. Not always smooth sailing. Always end up needed something else/extra.

Take your time and clean up any rusted areas while the engines out.

Took me just over 1 week as I had to order/wait for parts I didn't think about.. did it on my own on my drive, first ever engine swap.

best bet is to find a complete car, then you can go for what ever year you want and everything is there to swap over, but then you cant help thinking save a load of effort and just drive the vts and sell the r lol unless you can get a nice cheap crash damaged car

Saxova, how easy was it? It will be my first time too, I'm a bit unsure on doing it.

Guess I'll have to find one already running then, nearly bought one on eBay but the lad said he never even had it running so it could have been as bad as mine!

Yeah Rod I know exactly where you're coming from.

Guess I'll have to shop round for a bit like with most things.

Thanks all

Mike

If youre swapping a Saxo engine for a Saxo engine, a conversion is easy. You could get it done in a weekend.

Even if you get stuck theres loads of help available on here.
