Used car mileage
Hi guys just wondering what you think a decent mileage is for used cars? Say an 04 plate Cooper or EP2 civic sport.
I bought my saxo vtr on 58000 and have had to change crap loads on it. I wonder if I had of bought one on say 80000 if all the stuff I changed would've been done already.
I'm looking at cars that are around 60k but not sure whether it's worth looking at cars with more or not.
What's your opinion?
Thanks,
Ryan

I bought my fiesta just after christmas with 115k on it, 1 owner, errr no service history? , now nearing 120k and hasnt let me down yet.
mileage isnt really a big thing in newer cars as modern engines last longer if you look after them. dont let mileage put you off!

There are cars that seem to get better miles than others i.e. Civic engine are pretty much bullet proof no matter how hard you push them.
I would buy a car with over 100K miles but it just depends on what the car is.

Mileage doesn't put me off, my new car is only 2 years old, got 54k on it, bought it at bang on 50k, guy lived 35 miles from town centre, so to get there and back was 70 miles a day, so a week he COULD have done 350 miles a week, don't bother me though as its all had service stamps and I've got 2 years warranty left, but no paperwork etc apart from the book
Last saxo had 50k, lots of history, but history means nothing, newest saxo has nearly no history, actually.. Not any as he had bought it from an auction, only had 2 previous owners, but it made the 200 mile trip home and some more in one day, visually and mechanicaly I Sussed what it needed and offered him allot less, it's on 99k btw
just make sure you take time nd look it over, feel everything nd play with everything, lift up carpets, poke about, you can't go wrong really.

Generally I believe the consensus is that cars average around 10 - 12K miles per year.

totally dependent on the cars past and its history.
If you have your wits about you, good cars can be found.

I think the problem with mileage nowadays is things other than the engine. Engines nowadays will easily do 150k+ but its other parts, axels and the like which although relatively easily replaceable, can be bloody expensive to sort

I got my Golf on 112,000 miles. Its now on 125,000 and I've had no issues what so ever.
Buying anything that's been looked after and you'll be fine.

Dont hold your breath. (lol at proud of having no problems in 5k miles )
My sisters had one of these for 3 yrs +..
Worse mpg than my 1.6 16v saxo.
Ford designed something wrong.. and water gets into the top of the engine.. soaking the spark plugs.
Since making a lead cover for over the spark plugs it's only had a misfire problem once.. So look into that if you get trouble
Changed the ht leads / plugs / distributor 5 times easily. Because of this problem..
Drop links are nylon and snap easy.
The chair mech to let people in the back broke.
Abs sensors constantly mess up / eml always on over weird codes lol
Bought on 40k - now on 70k.
But yeah on topic.. Rather have a high milage one with proof of all work carried out.

Thanks for your views, I bought my saxo in july 2011, ive spent about 4 grand repairing it, haven't had a chance to do anything to it which is annoying.
My car has no history from 35k. Ive had it fully serviced 3 times in my ownership, soon to be 4 but its all done by my friend. So sometimes history isnt everything.
I fancy an ep2 sport or mini to tide me over for a while, so I can save up for something nice. Choosing a car is a daunting task though.
