Default AS_BO's Mk2 VTR crossover.......

As I'm starting to do work on the car now it seemed silly not put a thread up with progress. I picked this up 3 months ago for £600, 112K with a year's MOT, 6 month tax and lots of bits done to get it through a test. 4 brand new tyres, drop links and a handbrake cable were done the day before I bought it as well as an oil and filter change. All I've done so far is fit Hekos, bonnet lifters as it runs a little warm and an oil catch tank to sort the air filter spitting oil onto my drive!

I don't think it's in bad nick for the age. The car came with the eBay induction kit and a non descript stainless system which will be coming off once I decide on saxsport or supersprint as it's too drony and loud!

Lots of progress to come....... First up...... Wheels. Suspension overhaul and lowering. Watch this space.........

UPDATE - so I've fitted the Chronos today, what does everyone think? I was totally unsure when bolting them up but now they're on I love 'em! Before it starts I know it needs lowering! 😝 Opinions? Click image for larger version

It needs lowing a hell of a lot.

Looks alright I think white wheels look cheap though would look so much better in silver.

Cheers fella, it appears the wheels are a bit of love it or hate it ATM. Loads of people have got different opinions of them.

Cheeky update then. I've fitted my 2 front wishbones which has got rid of most of the bumps and knocks in the front end but I'm still getting a vibration through the accelerator. I'm thinking an engine mount/gearbox mount? Can anyone shed any light on this?

New front brakes on the way - drilled and grooved discs and Mintex pads should sort the stoppers as I have zero faith in them! Also, these arrived the other day

Maybe have a look at the cooling system if its running warm. Bonnet lifters really shouldnt be needed to help cooling, at least with the engine in standard spec

Nice car ! Wheels wise I'm not a fan of white but yours do look good.

The twin vts fan setup, is it a direct fitment?

So an update so to speak. The car is in need of some work so I've spent the best part of £400 in bits......... Click image for larger version

Rear Pads and Drilled/Grooved Discs
Front Wheel Bearings
Both Driveshafts
ARB Polybushes
40MM Apex Springs
Strut Top Mounts & Bearings
Kam Racing Linkages
OBP Quickshift
Rocker Cover Gasket
MK2 Airbox with K&N Panel Filter
Millers Fully Synth Engine Oil
Fuchs Fully Synth Gearbox Oil

So I cracked on with the rear brakes first which were a complete bastard...... The car has 116K on it and I reckon they'd never been apart since the came off the production line.
The sliders in the bottom of the calipers were seized solid, so much so that I bent them on the way out. The retaining screws for the discs were also stuck solid so they were a twat aswell!!

While I was in there I gave the inner arches a quick blast with AS G101.... Absolutely awesome stuff. Took all of the road grime off straight away and that was at approx 10:1 dilution. I'm gonna give a proper going over before winter I think.

Once I've sorted the rust which luckily is recoverable. Had a good poke around today and found that although there is moisture trapped in the inner arch it hasn't eaten away too much at the points that commonly go. Boot floor is good and chassis beams are solid too.

Rain stopped play so after it stopped lashing down I did the Rpcker Gasket and Oil + Filter change. Millers fully synth has completely changed the running of the engine, a lot quieter, smoother and pulls noticeably better.
