How to set up gauge senders
so.... how do people do it?
Im looking to fit a SPA dual gauge (oil temp and oil pressure). I've heard of some people tapping original holes in the block but has anyone tried the oil sandwich plates available?
Like this:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/OIL-FILTER-S...item5d3eb03cd8
Could run both senders for the gauge through this without touching anything else. Anyone have any experience with these?

I'll be doing this soon.
Using a sandwich for oil temp then have an LMA remote oil pipe, http://www.demon-tweeks.co.uk/motors...remote-t-piece
Have heard the pressure sensor is best mounted off the block.

Does that give good readings for oil pressure Ross?
Also do i have to use an oil cooler with it or can i blank the ends off?

yes - it's direct on the block basically, so accurate. Better than the LMA remote oil feed I used to use for sure. And yes, you can fit a "mushroom" if you're running a remote filter/cooler like I am, or you just fit the filter direct to the sandwich plate.
Edit - I've just realised you mean if you're not running a COOLER. Hmm. This probably isn't for you then whoops! I presumed you'd be running a cooler - sorry dude

the correct postion for oil temp sensor is in the sump
fitted in sandwich plate you will be measuring either before or after cooling ,not the current ambient temp of most of the oil .
unless you are wanting to see max temp that is and not what the average engine oil temp is

OP wanted pressure also. Sandwich plate is ideal for that.

I take it you just unplug the standard sensor and fit the gauge one?

The sump im using doesnt have the o/e sensor but i had a spare sump with one in so i knew where to place it. Only thing was i drilled the hole in sump but i had to make a nut for the inside due to the type of thread, couldnt tap the sump but the thickness of the sump isnt thick enough unless used washer on the outside. When come to doing this it will become clear what im getting at.
I just havent wired it upto a live yet.

just weld a suitable boss on any sump will do ,but i would use the SPA sensor that comes with the gauge not std one --then calibration will be correct

I am using one of these plates (think it's the same as in the op)
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Black-Sand...item3383e38a9d
Originally had both pressure and temp in it.
Now just have pressure, as the temp seemed to get very hot to quickly.
So now using the std sump position, that I was unused (single plug engine in 3 plug car)
