Default New to forum and "what would u do's" needed!!

Hi saxo folk!

I have owned my P-reg vts since 2004 however it's been off the road for near 4 years when the gearbox failed in 5th gear has been awaiting my uncle, who owns a service garage, to pick it up and repair it.... I miss my vts! The gearbox parts are waiting for it but because I've got a new runaround car it's kinda been left in the shadows cos he gets so busy. Now I dread to think what else has seized up or needs doing plus need driveway space ........debating whether to sell as it is, or to wait..... This is my vts dilemma! It has been the best car I've ever owned that's for sure! How much would it be worth as it is? Is rust free n solid with a few dinks here n there only cosmetic..what to do!

Any opinions appreciated

Take it for a MOT and see what's wrong with it. It'll need a service, cam belt and water pump, pads and discs, new brake fluid. If say that would be minimum, you'll have to see how all the rubber boots and bushes have faired over time.

No to mention the gearbox, you can pick them up cheap enough.

As above, you`ll also need to free up the brakes before moving it.

Thanks for your replies......Oh yeh the brakes would have seized up to huh. Think you've helped make my mind up..... :/ my other problem is that my driveway is a steep slope so once I roll it back to get under the bonnet (as its currently head first in a conifer thats kindly grown around it!) there's no going back and my other cars will be in the road.... Ugh! Think it's safe to say I've answered my own question here....plead good old uncle one last time n if its still there by end of October ill have to cut my losses and wave good bye to it just too much for me to do I'm far from a mechanic. Sad times

Brakes siezed for sure, especially if you've had the handbrake on. An oil change for definate and a fair amount of clean fuel as the old stuff can go manky and as soon as you start her up theres lots of nasty shit being pumped through your fuel system. Not good.
Tyres will be buggered as well, perished to the point they could very well fail an mot. The list goes on mate. To be honest your probably better selling it as spares and either picking up a new VTS or try a different car altogether.

If u love the car or want to keep it or get another vts why not just get it to a garage and get the work done. That way when it's done u no the car is not in need of anything. That's what I done with my 106 gti. If u want to get rid and get something else then ye best bet is to break it or sell it as a whole car cheap. I'd recommend getting it fixed up if u still want a vts though. Ul no the car is up to scratch then

All the tyres were flat n I pumped em up and I think your right they look like they aren't sticking to the rims lol..... This was my worry that if I rolled it bk and tried to start it with a new batt that I might cause it more damage..that's even if it would start at all.

Haha prickle I used to be a member on here under a very old email address I cancelled years ago so I signed up again however, it's looking like its getting taken to the garage next weekend... Cos it's on my mums drive she's threatened a visit fromthe scrap man before Xmas soooo a good show of the girly pleading help me sad eyes to my uncle seems to have worked for now lol tbc!!!

change all fluids
change all filters
change brakes
change spark plugs
change tyres
change cambelt / water pump
flush the tank before even considering starting the engine.

And probably more perished surprises in there I'm afraid.

Untaxed and untested saxos are worth scrap prices only. As you said the gearbox is shot so it's worth close to sweet eff all.

So.....unsurprisingly my poor old vts is still on the driveway, and is due to get scrapped around Xmas... however I've just picked this up for my other half, her manual test is all booked as she only has an automatic license! I'm so happy with it and am surprised how much kick it's got for a 1.4, much more fun than my 1.4 corsa.... Has remote/button ignition and only done around 32k which I'm still a bit suspect of but the mots also say so.... But anyway God I've missed my saxo!!! so happy!!!

Keep it spend money on it when you can, buy a Haynes manual and use other resources and use it as a project which you could probably learn a lot from?? As for the gear box I've seen them on ebay for £40 so should think that's too bad and the others armt nothing major really just time consuming but would be an excellent starting point to gain some mechanical experience for future cars??
