Default VTS Engine conversion

Im buying a 106 GTI engine tommorow, i've read the guides on the conversion but have a few quick questions.

Can i use the VTR throttle cable on the new engine?
Will the VTR gearbox mate up with the GTI engine?

Cheers

dont think you have to change the gearbox but i dont think it will last long if you dont, think throttle cable should be ok though

i would of thought a vtr box would be wwaaayyy too long for a gti engine to keep it in the powerband, unless youre boosting it? the gearbox should be alright but i would say you would need the gti throttle cable as the throttle bodies are in different places.

iv bought a vts throttle cable for when I'm doing my vts conversion, as I read that the vts throttle cable is slighly longer. Was only £20 odd so thought I'd buy one as didn't want to 'bodge' it !! lol

gti box have shorter ratios then? No im not boosting it at the moment, probably ported head, throttle bodies and omex at a later date though.
Ok il ask the bloke for the throttle cable tommorow then.

£200 for a 72k engine ECU and loom sound alright to you guys? I thought they went for a lot more then that?

Vtr throttle cable is usualy too short. The 2 ive done needed a new cable. Only like £7.

Your vtr box will go straight on but it will be shite. The gti box is the same as the vts box, alot higher final driver. Try and find one, really are worth it.

Why will it be shite? Are the gears THAT much shorter in the GTI/VTS box?

the vts/gti, xsi, rallye boxes all have the "sports gear clusters" and have different final drive ratios.
the vtr,1.5 diesel, 1.1,1.0 4 speed all have lousy gear ratois and different final drives.

basically with the vtr box the ratios will allow it to do about 172mph at ABOUT 7,500 rpm.

you need the vts throttle cable
how would the vtr gearbox not last long? it was last teh same length as a 16v box but just wont suit the engiine.

Just got back with the engine.
Probably gonna take the head off and port that out & replace the headgasket
Hone the block out and new piston rings.
Needs cam belt and VTS throttle cable.

Bloke told me i need a VTS fuel pump, but i dont think i do tbh? He said the engines run bad without one, but i think he may be talking about the fuel return?

just reading this i had a quick thought. i dont really know much about gearbox's, but could you put a VTS box on a VTR engine? and would it have a good/bad/at all difference?

any saxo/106 gearbox will fit mate. VTS box will give you better acceleration.
