Default What other power mods can i do on my VTR?

Current spec VTR

High lift cam
4-2-1 manifold
Full 2" supersprint system
Pipercross viper induction kit
Bored out throttle body

Just wondering if there is anything else i can do to get any more power from the engine without going down the turbo or 16V route

Any ideas what sort of power i will have once my car has been re-mapped as well?

throttle bodies or bike carbs is an option too - albeit expensive and not as good as a 16v

Have you had the head work done too? That's all that's left without opting for throttleboddies and maybe a more aggressive cam.

Get it remapped first then see what you think of the power.

I'm assuming you've sorted brakes and chassis too... If not, spend your money there. No good having a 150bhp VTR if a standard one leaves you in the corners!


As for power figures, no-one could realisticaly guess due to many factors such as the rolling road you use, weather conditions, condition of engine etc BUT i reckon you'd probably be looking around 120-130 depending on all the other stuff.

I think the lad who had the engine before me had some headwork done as well as an uprated headgasket etc. The engine is on approximately 50,000 so should be in reasonable condition.

I'm getting a GTI-6 brake set up soon off a lad i know.

Is there a company that makes throttle bodies for an 8v as i can only find 16v throttle bodies?

Get in touch with sandy brown or Colin satchell. Iff you look through the threads about throttleboddies you will find them. They are the men to see about itbs.

They basically take motorbike tb's and make up a manifold for them to fit to which ever engine you have, set up the bodies and clean them up etc, then post them back to you ready to fit.

You will need though either to find someone to remap your standard ECU (which isn't as good as a standalone) OR get standalone ECU. These are a few hundred quid though. I think I've seen people say to get their car bodied and set up they were looking at around £1500.

So you see... really you've hit the limit with what you've done so far.

If you don't want to spend that kind of money i'd look at having the head work checked and improved if necessary then getting better suspensions sorted and the brakes you mentioned.

theres also forged high comp pistons mate but realistically to do that you again need a standalone ecu to map them and the cam to get the most out of it.

oh and theres nos which is always good for a giggle and from what ive gathered is a very cheap way of getting 40 odd brake
