Default 6 month of VW hand brake fail!

alright basicali i have a 11plate scirocco gt as a daily, park it up on the drive last night all well, our drives slightly sloped but nothing major, we have 12ft electic gates at the bottom, about 8-30 this morning heard a massive bang and car alarm going, whent to look though window to see my car smashed though the gates and wedged between them,

so i whent out to try free the car, had to bend the gates out the way with a jack, the whole rear quater is bent in and damaged to fuck, the rear bumper is fucked, and the allows are mashed to, all in all for me to repair it for say a customer theres at least 1grands worth of damage/work,

thing is though when i got to the car the hand brake was clearly fully up, the car has less this 7k on the clock and just over 6 months old, there for i see this as VW should pay for the damage but i think there just gona turn round n say unlucky prove it was on, and gona have to pay out n fix it my self. what do you reckon

Unlucky though mate. Having woken up to my fathers old xsara sat in the middle of the cul de sac enough times, my cars are always left in gear when parked.

Quick look on Google shows you aren't the 1st person this has happened to. But at the same time, it looks like VW won't admit fault.

Did you try and push the car after the accident had happened?? Was the handbrake holding it fine afterwards??

Wouldn't they have to investigate it and then they would find the fault and I would assume have to replace/repair?

Worth making a claim against them either way, nothing to lose as such

Got to be worth a try at getting them to sort it, but can't see them paying out to be honest. That is majorly unlucky though!

Years ago Ford had this problem with there mondeo's, guy i know had the same problem like you with the sloped drive and smashed his leccy gates..

Ford after a while give in and admited fault as it happened to a LOT of people.

Id on that basis keep going back to them.

When parking on a slope, always leave in gear and the wheels angled towards the pavement. If you have grounds of making the claim, do it. Will be tough unless you can prove there was a defect that is VW's fault.

Surelly they cant use that to justify it though that then must be a design problem especially as its 6 months old its not down to it being a old car thats not been maintained? In 5 years of working in the trade ive never seen that myself like!

brakes weret hot i had only picked my gf up no further then 5 mile round trip, so cant use that one.

-didt manage any pictures as someone smashed my iphone other day (yes wank week or what)

had a quick google and seems to be alot of people saying the same.

tom not had chance to look at it yet as feel shit and have some other stuff to sort but i will take it to work and have look on my ramps later, also garage next to me is a vag specialist and both the lads worked in vw dealership for 35 years each now opened up next door,

as said i really cant see them paying out as there twats like that. drive a bit of a slope but noting major tbh, hand brake fully on it should neva roll.

defo gona try and claim and do everything we can to get they to pay out n fix it, tbh i own a body shop so not ebd the world but dont have the time or think i should have to do it, its not reali gona cost vw that much to sort it, couple hours pulling re shaping spray and fade side, spray bumper shouldt cost them more then 100quid in materials.

Theyll just say the handbrake was left off and it rolled down the hill. Cunty as it sounds, thats all I'd do if it was my business.

To be honest, it's going to be difficult to prove but if there are plenty of people complaining online, then perhaps your best shout would be to gather evidence of people complaining and use it to substantiate your claim.

If there's enough problems elsewhere throughout the country they will eventually recall them and repair them. I would be fighting very hard to get VW to foot the bill Mark. A long time a go one of my mates had a Siecento with a leaking fuel tank, after searching google I found that there was a factory recall and got fixed for free for her due to a leaking fuel tank exploding and killing someone in Portugal.

A faulty handbrake could easily kill a person, what if your mum/dad were gardening in the flower bed with an iPod in? They would have been squished into the gate.

Write to local rag and give em some bad press
