You checked you have spark etc I take it? I mean you must given that sometimes it starts but ya know. Is there a strong petrol smell when it eventually starts after dry cranks?
Try turning the key to position 2, leave it for a minute or so, then try, see if that helps and let me know.
I know it's unrelated, but I have exactly the same problem in my BMW, and for some reason, leaving it in pos 2 for a minute seems to help, which I'm thinking is fuel pressure, just don't know why. Dunno how a saxo works though, so maybe not.
