Removing Sunroof, completely...
Hello you lovely people!
Got a 106 GTI Track toy that I'm slowly building. Sadly it is a sunroof model! I have removed the glass and most of the mechanism. However, the main frame is still in the car and I'm wondering how to get this out. I can see it's bonded in, I want to know the best way or how you guys have removed the bonding! Car will be getting a sheet of aluminum riveted over the gap!
thanks in advanced.
Shannon

Been reading your thread the past few nights getting ideas
Is it really that bad? It's literally a £500 gti with minor rust, I'd like to swap everything out to a rallye shell one day...

plenty of people on here have chopped the frame out and plated over the hole. You can get a strengthening bar that fixes between the B pillars if you're that fussed.

I plated my sunroof but just left the cage / frame in place. I'm sure its actually spot welded in place from memory?
If you were intent on getting it out, I suspect it would need cut out? Other folk might be able to confirm that for sure though.

Cheers buddy! What about the black trim/frame on the top of the roof?

Pretty sure the top bit just lifts out when you've undone everything? Cant remember off the top of my head, but I don't remember it causing any headaches.
