vtr no handbrake!!! - Saxperience

Hi all,I have just fitted new pads to the rear and foot brake working fine.Have lubed the shaft that the handbrake cable pulls and it turns when the handbrake is applied.The problem is it does absolutely nothing as i can turn the wheel by hand with hardly any resistance whatsoever.when the shaft on the back of the calliper turns is it on a cam and how does it push the piston to operate the brake pads.is it possible that whatever it pushes is siezed solid and if so how easy is it to free off if i remove the calliper.Thanks for any advice .Alan.

Im not familiar with the rear setup on the saxo yet as I havnt played with it. lol. If its just a normal piston like the front then you pushed it back in using a pushback tool? Or is it the wind back style in which case you had to 'wind' back the piston, turning it untill it was fully reset?

I'm assuming that you wound the pistons back and all that carry on. On the piston there's a little lug which sits higher up. You need to locate this little lug into the gap on the back of the brake pad.

there is a little lug on the brake pad that sits in a slot on the calliper piston,that is fitted correctly.

Wrong way round, lugs on the pad. Gaps in the piston.

rear calipers are wind back in piston type. and have you tried adjusting the cable mechanism underneath the car?

the pads are in and footbtake working fine.the handbrake cable is pulling and rotating a shaft on the back of the calliper but not pushing the piston out against the pads.

You need to realign the pistons. Then engine off, pump the brake pedal until hard. When all done, add a few hundred miles for the pads to bed in. You won't feel much when driving because the front brakes usually do 80-90% of the work. Meanwhile when parked, just leave the car in second gear until it's all bedded in properly.

Dont know what you mean by realigning the pistons.pistons were screwed in pads fitted,pedal pumped and footbrake fine.it is purely the handbrake mechanism of the calliper i need information on.how does the handbrake mechanism work.

Handbrake working fine now.the levers on the calliper for the handbrake were not going back far enough as someone had adjusted the cable up too much.I removed the cable wound pistons in,pumped pedal till it felt good ,reatatched cables and adjusted up.All good now.Thanks for all the advice,.
