High idle / slow cut off will be the Pierburg carb. There are service kits available (I've rebuilt 3 on the golf!!) or you could always convert to a weber carb. It'll have a manual choke so you can control the idle instead of relying on a vacuum system. It'll increase power a bit but might make it thirstier.
Before you buy a new seatbelt, pull it all the way out and spray the belt both sides with furniture polish. Mine packed in 3 months ago and wouldn't spring back, did this trick and they're like new.
Finally! Nice car mate looks like a really solid shell with bags of potential, if you ever feel the need for more power, 1.3 engines from mk2 golf's and polo's fit straight in. Gti engines will also squeeze in with a little pursuasion!
