Wednesday 10th October
Bottom end cleaning commences
Had a bit of spare time this morning, only an hour or so, so i thought id start to tackle the bottom end, condition wise it looked fine, but it was covered largely in what would be described as a spilt oil drum.
A roll of kitchen paper later, some scrubbing with a toothbrush and 2 sides are looking fairly clean. (Havnt started on the other 2 yet)
Ill give these another spray with gunk remover tomorrow to make sure and get all the little bits off that ive missed. Then whip over it all with a dremmel attachment of some sorts.
Ill then be hammeriting the bulk of it to keep it fresh and clean and start adding bits on again (if i can remember where the hell they go) before the head arrives back.

Friday 12th October
Cleaning commenced today.
Pretty much no more oil left atall on the bottom end now, only a few small crevises left to get in and another quick rub over to make double sure.
Started to dremmel the surface a bit aswel to get rid of any small signs of surface corrosion (ie. Small bubbles hiding hints of rust- you can see these bitsi n the pics where the paint surface is broken) just being a bit anal? maybe, but i may aswel do it properly tbh.
Ill go and get a few brushes and some hammerite tomorrow i think.
Todays pics anyway:
I also bought a 500w work lamp from screwfix too, an absoute bargain at just over £5. My god it gives off some heat though. bought my forehead out in a sweat after a few minutes

Josh how did you manage to get yours that clean? No idea how much more to clean the innards on mine how. Cant get the end plate off like you have there either, dont know how the 'cog' bit comes off. Haynes manual could be clearer tbh

Blocks looking much better now mate, Where things bolt onto the block like the water hose you can lightly sand down with very fine sand paper - have to use a good technique to make sure you smooth it down equally.
Dont worry about the oil pump, leave that alone, clean the surface where the sump seals to the block so you can get a good seal again. Crank and shit you wont be abl to remove because it has 4 pistons and rods still attached to it
Start getting it all painted up so its nice and ready for when the head comes back now pal

Doing some great work on this Willsy mate! Looks so much better. Just a quick
question. Is it safe to apply hammerite to the engine?
