I got the Procomp for £210 which i dont think is particularly over the odds considering its a bigger intake than anything else on the market (Aside from the VTS procomp of course) Ill be widening the gap in the slam panel to make full use of this extra space so its not wasted.

Baragin that tbh

They were like 400 quid when they came out

Whan i read yours and Toads threads (and a few others) it makes me wann get on the phone to Kam for some carbon armour book in2 qep for standalone, throttle bods, headwork, the lot. Then i start daydreaming of superchargers.

Then i check my PMs and there is another one asking about minis and i think fu*k the saxo, its getting sold, my mini deserves some attention.

Then i have one sneaky peak at my subscribed threads before i log off and low and behold another update to one of you guys and im off browsing the net for info on standalone management!

MK1 spoiler and remove rear splitter eh? Do it do it do it! Not a fan tbh of
that rear splitter thing, so I think thats a good move, and the MK1 VTS spoiler
is the best one imo.
Well the GTi one rules all but thats not saxoland.

Me indicisive? Eh?
Just be a stylish track wannabee like me, everyone knows I cant drive. Rockingham
first bend anyone? At least I look cool while doing that kind of crap.

I do like the engine bits, but at the same time agree with Yates, the bits seem
a bit prices for what they actually are.
I had my coil cover all sprayed gloss black, and the citroen emblem smoothed
over and remove. Looks awesome, total cost £0

But true Matt, your no normal are you.

About GMC, yea they can make you feel like right idiots. Who ever I kept talking
to about torsion bars. No matter what I said they didnt listen to a word I was
saying...

Dont really surprise me Matt, what they say?

Well the bloke i spoke to (Wasnt John although ive been told to call back and talk to him as hes much more helpful) wasnt particularly helpful, he was talking as in disbelief and having a bit of a chuckle :s

I basically said to begin with that i wanted some advice with my VTS engine that ive cleaned up and want to rebuild a bit.

Told him the headwork thats been done and was wondering what he thought about Forges pistons for the bottom end based on the engines milage..

Thats a perfesctly normal well described question i thought.

His response:

Well to begin with how was the engine running when you got it?

Me: Fine so i was told and i have some service history from some diagnostics checks and it was fully checked over.

Him: So you didnt actually see or hear it running?

Me: Well no, but from all the info and documents i have it seems fine, there was a problem with the head but that was sorted by a specialist initially and QEP have completely gone over it for me.

Him: so you dont know if it was smoking or anything like that then?

Me: No but id assume not from notes on service history

Him: well its impossible for me to give a proper answer, personally id have put it in the car if you didnt know if it was running fully right first ans seeing how it went.

Me: but i thought it would be easier to change all the parts while its out the car, saves me alot of money surely? So do you think id need to change the pistons or anything given its current milage?

Him: i cant really give much more of an answer tbh, you could just change the piston rings but if you put it back together and its smoking or burning oil then you've still got to take it back apart and change them and you'll have wasted £100 on the rings

(Me then thinking so is he actually trying to say bugger it and change them anyway?)

It didnt really go much further than that, still feeling largely confused about it.

.................................................. ...................................

Any thoughts and suggestions now?

I got the feeling that he thought i was just chucking the engine into a 1.0 car without thinking about it. I hadnt explained that id gone to great lengts upgrading the suspension, brakes and everything else about the car and dont want to chuck in a grubby old engine.

This car has afterall been a project that ive learnt alot from and i want to benefit from getting some engine knowledge and finishing things properly with thew intention of running the car for a long time with maximum effort gone into it all- not some little tart whacking an engine in a 1.0 shell for the crack and to rag it around

Hmmm...

Seems like the same sort of conversation I had...
"Ive uprated my shocks, but am now looking at uprating the suspension furhter
with thicker torsion bars and custom poundage springs"

"LOL! What do you use your car for mate"

"ideally tracking it when I can mate"

"haha tracking it, stick with standard ones mate, blah blah"

Obviously the guy you spoke to you summed you up in the first few mintues of
the conversation. Its really unhelpful, but I sort of understand where they are
coming from.
Suppose if they weed out the soso projects they save time??

But at the same time "real" projects are lost in the process. Once you have the
idea spec you want. Just basically explain what work has been carried out on
the car, and then explain what further work you want on the car. Dont talk
about the condition of the engine or mileage etc etc. Just get right to the point?

If that dont work then lol Im not sure how to break GMC, its so difficult for them
to actually help you. I rang 3 times regarding thicker torsion bars, still didnt get
them as they talked me out of it each time! Crazy.

Is john on SSC then? I still think he may look at me on there with about 10 posts and think exactly what they probably thought on the phone and not take it as a serious project.

As he knows nothing of the car they probably assume i am some muppet wanting to slap a big engine in a standard crap shell to act clever and smoke some corsa driver off the lights.

Shame theyre not local whereby i can take the car there ans they'll see how serious the project is.

Ill try again tomorrow, if it goes horribly wrong again i may look elsewhere like pug1off which arent too far to travel to and talk with them.

we'll see
